A late afternoon stroll and mrs onionbagblogger and I engaged in a game of Spot the Media Luvvie in SW8; ten points for a TV crew, five for radio and a mere half a point for a hapless hack wondering why he has been sent South of the river and looking uneasy with the 'edginess' of Stockwell.
The station has become a shrine
mrs onionbagblogger won with the spot straight away of the Sky News OB van. I had to contend with a suited and booted hack (on a Sunday!) and a Japanese journo who was rather unwise in setting up shop outside Stockwell tube with his latest laptop.
Stockwell tube has now become a shrine to Mr de Menezes with flowers and varied messages, ranging from support and sympathy, a show of strength from the community and as expected, SW8 silliness.
One such message from a group calling themselves Spliff This suggests that former Brixton Commander (and all round good guy) Brian Paddick 'planned' the shooting. Something to do with a little local difficulty in recent months with the Cannabis Festival being banned from Brockwell Park. You can just imagine the Spiff This conspiracy theory conversations in the early hours of the morning as Star Wars played out for umpteenth time.
There's the local meeting tonight to try and make sense of what's happened in Stockwell, and then hopefully we'll be back to 'normal' on Monday morning with the extremely friendly fruit and veg folk setting up their stall where the banners currently fly. I've not actually taken a tube journey since July 7th; nothing to do with being scared, just that I prefer to cycle. I may have to venture into town later in the week. Going underground at Stockwell for the first time will be a strange experience.
